✭LURING YOUR DOG

Being able to lure your dog sounds silly.... I'll admit! However, the game teaches awareness, trust and sets you up for being able to do some pretty cool tricks and heel commands. 

You want to make sure your dog is comfortable being lured in circles (try to get them to do tight circles- with no "command" or "trick name", get them to take steps backwards and forwards. Mix it up. REMEMBER!!! You don't do the circles, your dog does.

✭SENDING TO THE PLACE COMMAND

You should be able to send your dog to the place, by at least 2 ft away. Make sure you use BIG body language when doing your hand commands (pointing at the place) from a distance.

(Remember the place command- your dog can sit/down/stand- all 4 feet must be on it.)

It shouldn't matter if you are sending your dog to the cot, their dog bed or a blanket!!! Expect the same on anything you 'dub' "Place". (Or whatever word you are using)

✭TRICK-BOOP (RECAP)

BOOP is a fun command to teach our dogs. We want them to come all the way into us, and place their snout in a circle or heart shape we are making with our hands. When our dogs put their snout through our fingers, we want them to hold it. Mark it with "Yes" when they have done it correctly, or a kiss on the nose and then throw a treat for them. 

 

✭COMMAND BURSTS

Once YOU and YOUR DOG get the burst commands - doing 3 commands QUICKLY, we want to start advancing it! You want to start mixing it up. Try to NEVER do these in a pattern- (after 3 commands, 2 commands, 3 commands,

1 command...etc.) there shouldn't be time for praise between the command and the release word. After the burst either throw the toy up in the air, OR throw 2-4 treats up in the air for them to catch)

✭COME COMMANDS 

Come Commands are Serious Business. Don't start the come command until you are willing to go get your dog if they don't come and set it back up. Come Commands should be varied with other commands and make sure you are not being predictable. Sometimes go back to your dog, some times lift up your arm like you are going to do a "Come Command" but don't. Some key things to remember. 
BEFORE DOING YOUR COMMAND- Stand in a split stance, and you are going to say "COME" with two large exaggerated slaps on the leg. When your dog is coming into you- praise them. When they are about 2-3 feet in front of you, do your BIG BODY language step into your dog. They should automatically "Sit". Only feed your dog and let your dog up once you have released them.

COME COMMAND CORRECTIONS-If your dog bolts out of a command or takes off. When you eventually do catch them, you want to 'Pop' the leash all the way back to the spot they broke from. (Approx. every 2-3 steps with your 'ah ah')

✭COME COMMAND WORK AND TIMING

(Remember, dogs LOVE to run!! So don't practice the come command unless your other commands are doing well first. You want to think of the 'Come Command' as a bit of a fun burst of speed for them.)
