YOUR SECOND CLASS
PUT THE TOYS AWAY
Your home should be a place of CALM.
We allow our dogs to have chew toys. But no squeaky toys, tugs, stuffies in the house. Leave those exciting toys for training!!!
We don't allow two dogs to play in the house or throw toys in the house.
Rough housing is for outside.
Don't let your dog bombard guests and push their way to the door. Be accountable for their actions... keep them back at least 5-10ft from the door and on a leash if need be. This is a great time to practice your "Down
Commands" with distractions. EXPECT your dog not jump on, bark at, lunge at people.
If they are not ready to be near the door then keep them in a separate room, or crate until everything settles.
Your perfection level is where your training will be.
Let a leash drag around the house to have more control until your dog earns getting off leash. They do NOT need to greet guests right away.
The only way your dog will learn the behaviour of NOT jumping up on people is if (1) you take control (2) you teach them it is unacceptable (3) you keep setting it up until you get the desire behaviour that you want.
Teaching a dog NOT to jump up actually happens pretty quickly! If you want your dog to still randomly "Hug" "Greet" you in that fashion then put a word to it, so it is like a trick. It ONLY is allowed when you say the special word.
